A Production-Ready Email Platform — For Sale

The Opportunity

A company that wants to offer a great email client experience can expect to spend about two years building and debugging the technology and infrastructure to support it. This is that technology — already built, already running, already proven.

The seller is the developer of Aqua Mail, one of the most successful independent Android email clients ever made, with 3.5 million users before its acquisition by MobiSystems. This is his second email platform, built with the full benefit of that experience.

What It Is

A complete mobile email client and backend platform. The Android client is a lean JSON consumer — the email sync logic lives entirely on the server, making iOS, desktop, or white-label versions straightforward to build on top of the existing technology.

The backend handles IMAP, Exchange (on-premises and O365), and full bidirectional contact and calendar sync. Both IMAP and Exchange support push mail — and because the heavy lifting happens in the cloud, the Android client is exceptionally gentle on device battery. Servers are geo-distributed across the USA, Western Europe, and Russia — users automatically connect to their nearest node.

This is not an email server. It connects to existing email servers — the end-user experience is comparable to Spark, Newton, or Airmail. But unlike those, the underlying sync engine is available as a platform.

The project is actively maintained. The Android client is optimized for Android 17 and the backend has been recently updated.

For a company wanting to build an innovative email product today, the options are: spend approximately two years building this kind of technology and infrastructure from scratch, or license a commercial alternative — these exist but can be expensive. This platform is the third option — acquire it outright.

The Economics

For context, Nylas — a comparable backend platform — charges $15/month for up to 10 connected accounts, with no end-user app included.

This platform runs on dramatically lower infrastructure. A single $10/month VPS handles 1,000 users. At 500 users, CPU and memory utilization sits at approximately 20%. The unit economics at scale are exceptional: a buyer operating at 100,000 users, at a $20/year per user license, would generate approximately $1.5M/year in near-pure-margin revenue after Google Play’s cut.

Who Should Buy This

A “rethink email” startup — skip years of technology work and build on a production-ready foundation.

An enterprise or MDM vendor — email is a natural adjacency. White-label or on-premises deployment is achievable without a rebuild.

A SaaS company — add email as a feature with margins that don’t compress your model.

The hard technical problem is solved. The market opportunity is wide open.

The Asset

The Seller

The developer behind Aqua Mail — 3.5 million users, acquired by MobiSystems. This new platform was built with a decade of hard-won knowledge about what makes email clients work at scale, and what makes them fail.
